Majesty Rao Jodha the ruler of Jodhpur from 1438 to 1488 on his accession laid the foundation of a fort on the top of a rocky hill known as Bhaurcheeria, the mountain of birds. Unfortunately to build the fort the only lonely human occupant a hermit named Cheeria Nathji was forced from his abode…  The angered hermit restlessly cursed Rao Jodha! Cheeria Nathji uttered about the scarcity of water in the fort complex for time immemorial. The King constructed a home with a temple for the hermit but all failed to eradicate the effects of curse…

Rao Jodha to ensure that the curse is completely alleviated showed the darkest side of human character as he forcefully buried a man called Rajiya Bhambi on the foundation of the fort… Rajiya Bhambi’s last word was “O mighty King doesn’t let people know how cruel our ruler is let my forceful killing be immortalized as the sacrifice for my motherland”…

To save himself from the beating of history he ordered that for coming centuries his descendants will be looked after by the Rathore’s. But such an inhuman act was not even accepted by the cosmos and until date the region suffers terrible famine, drought, after every 3 years..

What is the secret that you all use to give a wonderful culinary experience to guests?

Ha Ha Ha… I must confess honestly that we are chefs no magicians so there’s no secrets to our work but it’s the passion to serve delectable foods to our guests that inspires us to prepare wonderful cuisines.

Are there limitations to work as a chef in a train? What do you find the most irritating yet challenging facet of working as a chef in a train?

Yes there are lot of limitations to work in a kitchen also to cook foods in a fast paced train is an uphill task but we look it elegant. We are known for our cuisines and it shows that we have mastered our weakness as our strength. The most irritating facets are doubtlessly the space of the kitchen as the kitchen is small and not to miss how we cope as well as work with hot sauces.

What are the Specialty of Indian Maharaja Train and the most preferred recipe of guests aboard?

The specialty cookery of the journey is an assorted collection ranging from Italian, French, Mediterranean, Mexican and Indian flavors. The hit with all guests are however the dum ka ghosht a spicy food cooked with finely chopped lamb pieces in aromatic cashew nut and onion sauce.

Where from you shop your ingredients for the classy foods?

We pick them up from all corners of India especially the spices are very carefully selected. The meat products are always fresh and we don’t believe much in freezing of food products as it destroys the taste of foods. Meat products are generally made available from foreign countries.

What is the work force behind this great effort?

We are an enthusiastic team of around 15 members who works for around 8 hours a day. We make all fresh foods and never recycle foods.

One last question who is the famous celebrity you have cooked for?

I think to me all guests are equally important however we have served many celebrities, famous personalities, royal heads, and big industrialists. So to name one would be unfair on my part.

Ice cream we scream was all childhood days but still in the core of my heart am a big lover of Ice-creams… Let me share an experience of Delhi sight-seeing tours with all fervent fans of Ice creams…

Traffic, red lights, blowing of horns, hundreds of slow yet steady motion motorcades, and an exhausted, sleepy traveler… It was not the end to the unexpected misery as amidst sleep the belly felt the urge to relish on the mouth watering street foods of Delhi… Street food in the midst of a merging traffic…

However, the driver came as a savior and he drove me to a small fast food shop crowded with hungry baskets… I was so hungry that I jumped out of the car and rushed towards the small colorful entrance to try out something… Deep thought was rising in my mind must be a far famed food court so many crowds and people waiting for their chance…

Roshan Di Kulfi that’s what they call this full of life eating hub but I was surprised to see people were savoring Kulfi even when they have no place to seat… My driver accompanied me to explain its legendary status and I could well rationally justify by the energetic rush of people about its testimony of legendary reputation.

The Ice cream parlor was famous for its kulfi, chhole bhature, aloo tikki, dahi bhalle, papdi bhalle and Delhi chat. I ordered almost all that I could possibly eat and they could serve. It was a delicious culinary journey of spicy, tangy, sour, & sweet flavors that I ever experienced in my world tour…

But the best was yet to be a part of my breakfast the famous faluda kulfi (Indian flavored ice cream). Perfect yes that what I screamed topped with sweet rose water, vermicelli, cherry, pista, cashew, cherry, & cream it was so soft that it melts the moment it touch the mouth to taste awesome.

I rate them the best Ice cream parlor in Delhi simply a paradise for all ice cream lovers and honestly not hoopla… Can try it whenever in Delhi; just visit the full of beans 2816,Ajmal Khan Road, Karol Bagh, Delhi.

It was a perfect culinary start to my Delhi tours that gave the exhausted soul the necessary energy to dare not miss the haunting beauties of Red Fort, India Gate, Jama Maszid, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Humayun’s Tomb, Raj Ghat Gandhi Memorial, Akshar Dham, Qutub Minar, a royal train outing of Indian Maharaja train & intoxicate self with the shopping carnivals.

Travel back in time in Karnataka’s luxury Golden Chariot, which takes you to a land of palaces and treasures.

The Golden Chariot is the first royal tourist train of Karnataka, and in fact in all of South India, and we traveled on its first commercial run. The brainchild of Karnataka Tourism, it’s been a work in progress for a while; last year, the department entered into a profile sharing partnership with Mapple Group of Hotels , who manage the hospitality on and off the board the train.

The vital stats of the train include: 11 guests coaches, two restaurants, one bar and a compartment with the spa, gym and business centre and a conference coach. The residential coaches are named after the dynasties that ruled over the state of Karnataka including Kadamba, Rashtrakuta and Hoysala. The coaches are equally lush with interiors inspired by the state’s architectural heritage.
Madira- the bar is based on the private audience hall in the Mysore Palace; the restaurants Nalapaka and Ruchi and the cabins are inspired by the more intricate Vijayanagara and the Hoysala art and architecture. The walls may be muted but the furnishings are adorned with red and gold in Madira and deep violet and floral prints in the restaurants.

Several great dynasties have ruled, fought over and perished in Karnataka and all have left their mark in the form of architectural treasures. The state boast two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Hampi and Pattakal, but there are many more equally stunning structures; the Golden Chariot Itinerary ambitiously attempts to take it in as many of these as possible. That makes for a somewhat hectic journey. But on the train, especially in the evening, the atmosphere is relaxed and clam.

Exploring Maharashtra on a rolling Palace Western India’s version of the famous Palace on Wheels train is a lavish 21-car luxury train called The Deccan Odyssey.

In addition to all the entrance tickets, the tour includes lunch in the famous palaces hotels of the aforementioned cities as well as other extras.

Another Luxury train of India, the Deccan Odyssey is also worth applauding. The Deccan Odyssey Train travels through Deccan region over eight days. It has 21 coaches, of which 11 are passenger cars and two presidential suite cars. It also has a conference car, which can double as a dance floor and two restaurant cars.

Ramnagar, about 40m km from Bangalore on the Mysore Road, has outsized granite boulders, with some of the most popular climbs. The Granite massif at Savandurga, 50 km west of Bengaluru , near Magadi, and the boulders of Turalli, 12km south of Bangalore towards Kanakapura, are other places you might want to flex your muscles.

For all those who are planning to a luxury ride across Maharashtra onboard the Deccan Odyssey, the news about shelving off the train may come as a big shock to them.

According to The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) board, the train could only run if the Indian Railways reduces the haulage charges and the new routes of shorter duration are approved.

The MTDC sources said that they had submitted the plan to the railways four months back, and till then there has been no responses from the Railways and if the railways does not agree upon the Indian royal train –the Deccan Odyssey is unlikely to happen.
The 21 coach train was built at a whooping cost of Rs 32 crore and became operational in the year 2005-06. MTDC has taken few steps to revive the train service and if the Indian Railways agrees to reduce the haulage charges, then the Deccan Odyssey may come out of the yard to offer an unparallel train journey to discerning travelers.

The Golden Chariot is the first royal tourist train in Karnataka, and in fact in all of South India. The Train
The Golden Chariot is a fully air conditioned train with 18 residential coaches. Each coach has four cabins. While the cabins essentially have sleep two, many of them have a foldable bunk bed as well. All cabins have a reasonably large attached bath. This royal train of India also has a well equipped bar- Madira with two specialty restaurants- Nala and Ruchi. There are also facilities for Spa and a gym as well. For business there is a well maintained conference car.

The Route
Bangalore- Mysore (excursion to Srirangapatna, Chamundi Hills and Kabini) – Hasan (Belur, Halebid and Sravanabelagola)- Hospet (Hampi)- Gadag (Aihole, Pattadakal and Badami)- Goa (old Goa and beaches)- Bangalore.
Guests have the option of starting their journey in Bangalore or in Goa and disembarking at Goa or Bangalore.
For the excursion the organizers provide transportation in air-conditioned buses that are very comfortable. On many of these trips lunch is also organized at a good local hotel. When there are no good hotel at the places like Hampi and Hassan, the lunch is provided onboard the train.

The Tariff
The 7 night/ 8 days package starts at INR 10050 per person on triple occupancy in off season i.e. from April till March. The High season from October to March tariff starts at INR 2415 per person on triple occupancy. The tariff includes accommodation, all meals, sightseeing tours and entrance fees. It does not include alcohol, laundry and phone calls, business car facilities and tips.
During the off season i.e. during April till September 3D/4N and 4D/ 5N packages are also available.

The Maha Parinirvan Express was launched by the Indian Railways to commemorate the 2,550^th years of Buddha’s Mahaparinirvan. The train covers the major Buddhist pilgrimage centres in India including Lumbini in Nepal. The Train is similar to the Rajdhani Express in terms of services and comfort and the passengers are warned to not expect the luxurious standards of other special trains like the Palace on Wheels and the Deccan Odyssey.

The Maha Parinirvan Express aims to offer the lesser but adequate comforts. In the circumstances, this seems entirely appropriate. Buddha left his palace, abandoning royal privilege, when he embarked on his quest 2,500 years ago. It wouldn’t do for us to follow his footsteps in a palace, even if it is Royal India Train, the Palace on Wheels.

The Route
Delhi-Gaya (excursions to Bodhgaya, Nalanda, Rajgir) – Varanasi (Sarnath) – Gorakhpur (Lumbini, Kushinagar)- Gonda (Shravasti)- Agra- Delhi.
Although the Railways offer 8 Days and 7 Nights tours, it is possible to book the tours of a shorter duration with a minimum stay of three days.
The majority stretch of the train’s route is through the badlands of Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh. For the security reasons of the passengers, Railway Protection Force personnel and private security guards are present on the train and also during the entire excursion.

Tariff
Rs 6, 038 for 1A, Rs 4, 226 for 2A and Rs 3, 542 for 3A (tariff s are per person per night). The tariff include of accommodation onboard and in hotels, all meals, air conditioned, transport and sightseeing tours and visits to the pilgrimage sites, entrance fee for monuments, guide fee, visa facilitation at Lumbini and an insurance cover.

The Karnataka State Tourist Development Corporation (KSTDC) has got the clearance from the Railways to run the Golden Chariot solely for the Hampi Festival, so tourist’s need not worry about the food and lodging.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, KSTDC’s managing director Vinay Luthra said; “We have recently got clearance from the Railways for rolling out the Golden Chariot for the Ustav”
The Golden Chariot Train will chug off from Bengaluru from January 26 and arrive at Hospet on 27 morning where it will halt for 2 days during the entire Hampi Utsav i.e. January 27 and 28. From here the passengers will be taken to the on luxury Volvos to witness the grand Hampi festival.

We hope that this will add to the essence of Hampi Utsav 2011,” added Mr. Luthra. After completing 2 days at Hospet, the train will move to Badami to reach there on January 29. After viewing the ancient Chalukyan glory of Badami, the train will go to Goa and return to Bengaluru on Monday,” Mr Luthra added.
